Hi everyone, and welcome to The Broken Scale!

I know, the name might throw you off. It sounds like we’re a weight loss place or maybe a place to fix a scale. But that’s not us at all!

The name actually started out as a joke. I used to work at a restaurant where the scale never worked. Customers were either getting ripped off or getting a great deal, and the owners refused to fix it. When we got complaints, we would just say, “Sorry about the broken scale.”

One day, I thought, “This would be a great name for a website!” So I bought the domain and started brainstorming ideas.

I thought about starting a restaurant, but that was too expensive. I also thought about creating a site for new chefs to learn the trade, but that was too limited.

Then, I got fired from my job. It was a tough time, and I lost my passion for a while. But then I realized that I shouldn’t give up on my dreams.

I was over 50 years old when I went to culinary school, so maybe I’m crazy for following my heart. But if people didn’t follow their dreams, we would never have the automobile, electricity, or so many other things we now take for granted.

So I decided to create a website where people could share their love of food. Food is universal, and teaching each other should be priceless.

The Broken Scale was born, and it’s about so much more than food. It’s about community. It’s about bringing people together from all over the world to share their stories and their recipes.
